Troop Recommended Equipment for Winter Camping (print pdf)

All equipment must be carried from parking lot to campsite. Room for equipment will be very limited.

DO NOT OVER PACK and LABEL ALL YOUR BELONGINGS

  • Duffel bag or backpack
  • Sleeping bag rated for expected low temperature
  • Sleeping pad – must have to insulate from cold ground
  • Mess kit
  • Class A Uniform
  • Class B t-shirts
  • Comfortable sturdy hiking shoes
  • Warm knit hat and gloves
  • Poncho or raincoat and hat
  • Toiletry articles - wash cloth, soap, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, and towel
  • LAYERS of clothing – warm coat or jacket and long sleeved shirt
  • Several pairs of warm socks – no cotton socks
  • Thermal underwear
  • Extra underwear
  • Extra shirt and pants
  • Extra pair of shoes
  • Scout Handbook and pen
  • Flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs
  • Rope for clothesline
  • Water bottle
  • Money for meals going down and coming back ($20)
  • Watch (so you know when to be places)
  • Folding camp chair
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Pocket knife or Scout knife (must have Totin’ Chip to carry)
  • Firestarter in waterproof container (must have Firem’n Chit to carry)
  • Insect repellent (NON-AEROSOL) and sunscreen (NON-AEROSOL)

Optional Equipment:

  • Compass (if available)
  • Ski mask
  • Hand/foot warmers
  • Pillow or air pillow
  • Writing paper and envelopes, stamps
  • Merit badge pamphlets – as needed
  • Camera - disposable is recommended
  • Trading Post spending money ($25+)
  • Book or magazine to read and playing cards
  • Lightweight stove, water, meals, water filter (as needed based on trip)

You may bring personal electronics to use on the ride down and back but they are not allowed in camp
